Poor Little Buddy

Saturday night Carson was over and went to get down and let out a scream! His right leg buckled and they could tell something was very wrong. So they took him to the Insta-care, and after x-rays, they sent them to Primary Childrens. He broke his leg in two places. About a month ago they thought he had sprained his right ankle...and he has been favoring that leg. So who knows what really happened. As we all know, 14 month olds are constantly falling and crashing as they are trying to get used to their legs. Poor little buddy! They put him in a splint and he has to go back on Wednesday for a cast. Molly and I were on our way back from St. George (helping with the new baby). Emma was a few months older than Carson when she broke her arm playing. They must have soft bones!

He is so dang cute in that picture, even when he is sad.

Just to clear up some confusion - he did sprain his ankle a month ago, but has not limped on it for over 3 weeks. The doctor said there was no way that it was broken then because the type of fractures he had he could not have walked on at all, one of the bones he broke was weight baring and they said he really couldn't support his weight with that type of fracture.

They did say they think he may have broken the 2 bones at different times, so we think he got the spiral fracture in the morning when he slipped by the shower, because he wouldn't walk after that (and the spiral is in the weight baring bone) and then the other fracture when he tried to walk at your house, because the fibula is not used to supporting any weight. So that is what we think happened and the doctors agreed that it was a fresh fracture.

It is funny they are supposed to be more pliable when that are young, but we were told spiral fractures were very common in young children, because they haven't learned to brace themselves in a fall. Either way we are bubble wrapping this next one at 18 months!
