The Dad gets a new smile!
We had a great trip to Alaska and after 12 hours in the dental chair, Mike came away with 9 new teeth! Our son, Stephen, replaced the old crowns that were causing problems with his gums, fixed several cavities and more. Thanks Steve! They look great. We tease Mike a bit because he talked funny at first, but he's getting used to the new fit now. Where's Molly.....she needs to load up all my pictures.
The Perk Graduates!
Congratulations goes out to our 5th child, Eric, who graduated from BYU yesterday. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Psychology minor. He decided that he wants to teach High School so he will go another year to get his teaching certificate. We are so proud of you Eric....you did it. A great Dad, of two darling tiny kids, a wonderful husbond to Liz, and a great son. Have fun in Disneyland. I'll post pictures after today's convocation.

Orlando Vacation
We spent last week in Orlando, Florida with Molly and her family.
Mike had signed up for a Principal's Convention so we purchased tickets in December.
Then in January, the legislature cut funding so the trip was cancelled. However, our tickets were not refundable and we had already paid for the condo and it was within the 60 day cancellation time as well.......so we went on vacation anyways!
Shawn had springbreak so they drove down from Athens, GA. About a 7 hour drive.
It was great to see them. I sure miss the girls.
We stayed in a great condo just outside the park.
Molly had just bought a new van so it was great to get around in.
The weather was soooooooooo nice. Sunshine everyday. The girls were great.
We started early each day and left when the parks closed.
Dad and I diligently studied Russian.
Each night at 10:00 pm our tutor, Phil, would call from the MTC and we would have our lesson over the phone for 2 hours!!!!
No rest! But it was great. We learned alot. It was fun studying in the lines. We packed our pockets with flash cards each day and we all learned the days of the week, how to count to 10, and how to get aquainted!
And of course we said all our prayers in Russian and practiced our testimonies.
I also learned 3 hymns...I Know My Father Lives, I Am A Child of God, & Called to Serve.
Mike is getting good at D&C 4, James 1:5 & Moroni 10:3-5

Cameron's mission papers are on their way....
Last Tuesday, March 3, 2009, Cameron (our nephew who has been living with us for the past year and a half) turned in his mission papers to the bishop. Hopefully they'll get to the Stake President by Sunday so he can be interviewed and then they will be sent into SLC!
So where in the world do you think he'll go?????
Post your pick. Prizes may be awarded. We're hoping they are back by March 18th if all goes well. So stayed tuned.
P.S. We need to get him gone before we head out to Russia on June 24th!
Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives???
So I need to go back to 3rd Grade! Oh how I wished I'd payed more attention in Mr. Healey's English class at Orem Jr High! I'm finding out that it's nearly impossible to figure out the Russian cases when I don't even know how to diagram a sentence in English! Ugh...
Any and all suggestions are welcome. A study partner would also be beneficial.

It's Official....
We've been called to serve in the Russia Vladivostok Mission beginning July 1, 2009. Crazy, over-whelming, humbling, and exciting. We met with Elder Jeffery R. Holland on January 20th, 2009 for a "get to know you" chat, then with President Dieter F. Uchtdorf on January 27th, 2009, and he extended a call to serve as "Mission President" in the Russia Vladivostok Mission beginning July 1, 2009. We were asked to not tell where until today, so they could officially contact all the mission presidents that are being changed.
I will post the map and more details soon.
